<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You are not alone in an online course. Remember that your instructor is getting paid to provide support and oversee your progress. Canadian instructors encourage learners to ask questions, so be sure that informing your online instructor when you don’t understand something is not going to affect your final mark. In fact, the great thing about online schooling is that you can message your instructor privately and receive a personalized answer. </span></p>

<h4><strong>Collaborate with other students </strong></h4>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A successful online course is one that creates a community of learners that collaborate and discuss important course materials. If there is a task that asks for your opinion, reply to other students’ posts after submitting your own. A reply might spark an enlightening constructive conversation. You can also take the conversation further and connect with students individually on their message boards. Prospective students should ask about such features when signing up for classes. </span></p>

<h4><strong>Share your experience </strong></h4>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In Canada, the classroom is a safe space for students to share their personal and professional experiences. Consider the theory that “learners are not only recipients,” their prior knowledge can enhance the curriculum and take conversations to the next level. Sharing your experiences can also help other students find their inner strengths as they might relate directly to your stories. Finding another student that shares the same interests might be the beginning of a lifetime friendship. </span></p>

<h4><strong> Follow the timeline </strong></h4>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There is a good reason why instructors arrange activities in a certain way. Therefore, you should not skip some activities to get the final quiz. By doing so, you will be missing a lot of important information that will help you not only pass the quiz with confidence, but also perform better after completing the course. Be assured that instructors select learning materials with purpose in order to ensure that students are able to fully grasp concepts and ideas.  </span></p>

Most individuals adjust their learning styles to the education system they have been involved in since their early foundational years. For this reason, adult learners in Canada could experience a version of “cultural shock” in the education system, as the classroom routine can be quite different. </span></h3>

<h3><strong>Learner-Centred Curriculum </strong></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Canadian education system is learner-centred. This means that, to a certain extent, learners have control over how and what they learn. They actively participate and reference their own goals in order to decide where they would like to expand their knowledge and skills. The teacher’s role is adjusted according to students’ needs. In other words, in a student-centred curriculum, nothing is set in stone. It could be said that the teacher is more like a “facilitator” who makes sure students have what they need in order to be successful. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While course objectives and outcomes remain the same, the approach taken to reach those goals is flexible and dependent on learners’ experience, learning styles, and expectations. The instructor evaluates learning materials and resources to match student&#8217;s needs. This approach facilitates independence which is a soft skill valued by employers, for example. </span></p>

<h3><strong>Critical Thinking Component </strong></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Canadian education system encourages critical thinking from the onset. Simply put, critical thinking refers to the ability to analyze information gathered through observation or experience. It’s a self-guided approach in which a person thinks logically and tries to form an opinion, or connection between ideas, based on facts and experience. Critical thinkers are usually able to solve problems better than individuals who base their problem solving skills on instinct. Being able to systematically approach a problem is a desirable skill employers look for. Therefore, Candian schools incorporate this skill into curricula and teaching practices, so graduates are qualified and able to face real life challenges. </span></p>

<h3><strong>Experiential Learning </strong></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Most trade, business, and technology programs taught in Canada offer an experiential learning component in which students apply the knowledge they acquire in class through hands-on experiences. These opportunities are usually offered as part of educational programs to provide chances for extended learning opportunities, to experiment and gain essential professional skills, and to acquire valuable work ethics and habits. Such opportunities allow learners to evaluate their own skills, identify their own strengths and weaknesses, and build a professional network. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In conclusion, in a Canadian classroom, students are expected and encouraged to ask questions, provide opinions, and share their experiences. They gain the skills needed not only to pass a course or a test but also to prosper as professional individuals in the Canadian labour market, armed with skills, experience, and references. At the end of their academic journey, they will be autonomous learners with full control over their future and professional development opportunities. </span></p>

<p>The last question you should have when taking an online course is wondering where the teacher is. Students should always sense the presence of an authoritative instructor that manages the course and directs students. For every course we offer, there is an accredited instructor that overlooks the progress of each active student and provides constructive feedback and directions.&nbsp;</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Prompt </h4>



<p>Students are expected to have questions, and teachers are expected to answer them in a prompt manner. A good instructor does not leave a student hanging, waiting for a response. Whether it is a technical or a subject-related question, a request should be answered quickly, so the student can move on within the course.&nbsp;</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Encouraging</h4>



<p>Although each of our online programs requires a passing grade, the knowledge you are acquiring matters more than grades. A good instructor invests in time to know and understand the unique demands of each individual student. An ultimate goal for CIBL instructors is encouraging students to overcome obstacles and create a steady workflow so they never fall behind and become overwhelmed.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Constructive</h4>



<p>A good feedback goes beyond the “good job” and “nice work” comments. When receiving feedback from your instructure, expect constructive comments that don&#8217;t only point out the positives and negatives of your work but also guide you on how you can avoid mistakes and become a better learner. With this method, students can celebrate their successes while addressing their weaknesses.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Online learning means more than written material. A new era of online educational technology has evolved in the past decades making learning more engaging and interesting. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>As an individual who has taken a variety of courses online and as an Instructor and creator of my own courses, I can say that I am constantly amazed at the advancements that the industry continues to make.&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong></h2>



<p>I took my first online course in university, where I studied art and design. At that time, the “course” consisted more or less of just an online reading list and a message board which was used for instructor-student and student-student communication. While the course served its purpose, and I successfully passed with a satisfactory grade, I was unimpressed with the variety of available activities. Ultimately, I thought, I would have preferred to discuss the concepts in-person where interactions with my classmates would have been composed less like essays and more authentically as we try to grasp the information presented by the instructor. Above all, I sympathized with students who struggled and couldn’t participate fully due to their insufficient reading and writing skills.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>Throughout the duration of the course, however, I did see the promise that this medium held for future students. Firstly, I could check in and complete the assignments when I had time; a freedom that weekly meetings did not provide. Secondly, I knew that as technology improved, the options for instructors designing online courses would be expanded.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Flash forward to 2014, I found myself delivering training programs overseas to students who were about to join workplaces in Canada. As I traveled from one country to another, I encountered busy professionals struggling to find time to attend in-person classes. I had no doubt that a better system should be created to help both instructors and students deliver and receive instructions freely. The desire to help those individuals succeed without compromising their careers was the spark for my first online course.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>Creating the courses was time consuming and consisted primarily of video-recorded lectures and PDFs. As promised, the courses delivered relevant information, and students were not required to attend classes and were able to review materials at their own leisure. However, there was no system for students to apply the concepts they were learning. Additionally, constructive interactions between the instructor (myself) and the students were delayed since they were mostly done by email. Furthermore, with expanded enrollment and the lack of a well-organized system, I struggled to keep up with the courses’ demands, including marking assignment or tracking progress. </p>



<p>All of this changed when I started using <a href="https://moodle.org/">Moodle</a>, an open source Learning Management System (LMS) and an industry standard for online learning that is used by the world’s largest universities. As an open source platform, a dedicated group of educators is constantly working to develop new solutions and innovative learning tools, which gives me a peace of mind dealing with a trusted and reliable system. I am now more confident than ever creating, promoting, and delivering online training.&nbsp;Moodle is an extremely flexible and robust system that allows instructors to set up lessons creatively and with innovation. </p>
