PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This online language learning program is designed for students wishing to improve their score on the IELTS General Training examination. The program is best suited for students wishing to score between 6 and 8 bands. The program combines practical exam knowledge, grammar lessons and extensive practice in order to prepare students for the exam.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this program, students will be able to:

  • Practice and learn how to correctly respond to every essay and letter question type
  • Practice and understand how to approach every task type on the listening and reading sections
  • Improve their use of advanced vocabulary related to common IELTS themes
  • Improve their use of advanced grammar features in order to vary tense and sentence structure and convey precise meaning
  • Complete a mock exam and numerous practice activities under realistic exam conditions

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

PC – Pentium III 600 MHz processor or faster, 256 MB RAM or greater (512 MB recommended), Windows XP/Vista/Win7 MAC– Intel x 86 based processor, 512 MB RAM or greater (1 GB recommended), Mac – OS-X 10.5 (Leopard) or 10.6 (Snow Leopard); Google Chrome Browser; Speakers or Headphones; Microphone; Camera or Smartphone to take digital photos; Reliable and unrestricted internet connection; comfortable using the internet.

*Much of the course content can be accessed via the Moodle App (iOS and Andriod), however students should have access to a laptop or desktop for the best learning experience.

Refunds are not available to students who are unable to meet technology requirements.

INSTRUCTORS

CIBL guarantees that all instructors employed will be well qualified holding at minimum a certificate allowing them to teach English as a Second Language courses in the Province of British Columbia, or at least 3 years of teaching experience. All instructors are familiar with the IELTS examination.

CIBL reserves the right to change instructors at any point during the program.

This program allows students to submit 5 instructor-marked assignments. Students can expect these assignments to be returned within 5 business days bearing specific feedback. Instructors will routinely view and comment on portfolio activities and participate in message board conversations with students.

ENROLLMENT PERIOD

Students are granted access to the online classroom and associated learning resources for a period of 3 months from the date of receipt of the username and password, or, until the course has been completed.

Accessing the course: Upon receipt of the course fees, a username and password will be sent to the email provided within 2 business days. If you do not receive our username and password please email admissions@ciblonline.ca.

This course is self-paced. You can complete the activities in any order that you like. You can also choose to focus on the activities that cover the subject areas that you need to practice, as completion of all items is not required.

GRADING

Students receive grades as per the course outline. The breakdown for this course is:

  • Speaking Portfolio: 15%
  • Writing Portfolio: 15%
  • Review activities: 15%
  • Instructor Marked Activities: 15%
  • Final Mock Exam: 30%
  • Participation: 10%

Completing the course: students must spend a minimum of 20 hours in the online classroom before being granted access to the final online mock exam. Upon completion of the final online mock exam, the course is marked complete. The student’s final mark is then tabulated and the certificate of completion is issued. Completing the final exam will mark the course as complete.

Extensions: extensions can be requested by emailing admissions@ciblonline.ca . A fee of $100 per week is applied.

REFUNDS

Refunds are typically not available and never granted after 24 hours of receiving your login information. However, if you feel that the course was not as represented in this agreement and can provide reasonable proof, please email admissions@ciblonline.ca. A $300 administrative fee will be deducted from any refunds granted.

This program does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training. As such, PTIB did not review this program.

Students may not file a claim against the Student Tuition Protection Fund in relation to this program.
